Barbara Ann Stokes Obituary, Barbara Ann Stokes Has Sadly Passed Away At Age 87

Barbara Ann Stokes Death, Obituary – It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of Barbara Ann Stokes, a beloved member of our family, on September 2, 2023, at the age of 87. Barbara’s life was a testament to love, dedication, and service to her family and community.

Born on April 6, 1936, in Annapolis, Barbara was raised by her devoted mother and stepfather, Estella and Reuben Roland. She found her lifelong love in Cosby M. Stokes Jr., with whom she shared a beautiful journey as a wife and devoted stay-at-home mother to their five cherished children.

After her children were grown, Barbara ventured into the workforce, beginning as a medical receptionist and eventually embarking on a long and successful career at the USNA Midshipmen Store. Her commitment to her work mirrored her commitment to her family and faith.

Barbara was a faithful member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, where her spirit shone brightly. In her leisure moments, she found joy in simple pleasures, such as leisurely walks, the pages of a good book, and the challenge of crossword puzzles.

Barbara was preceded in death by her loving husband, Cosby M. Stokes Jr., and her brother, George Wilson Ford Jr. She is survived by her adoring children: Cosby M. Stokes III (wife Leesa), David L. Stokes Sr. (wife Joanne), Michael L. Stokes, Tammy A. Arellano (husband Robert), and Terri L. Brenneman (husband Todd). Her legacy extends to her beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who will carry her memory forward.

We invite friends and loved ones to celebrate Barbara’s life on Thursday, September 7, from 6-8 PM at Kalas Funeral Home and Crematory, 2973 Solomons Island Road, Edgewater. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, September 8, at 11 AM at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church, 101 Owensville Road, West River. Interment will be a private family affair.

In lieu of flowers, we kindly request that memorials be made in Barbara’s honor to Hospice of the Chesapeake, 90 Ritchie Highway, Pasadena, MD 21122. Barbara’s legacy of love, resilience, and dedication will forever inspire us, and her memory will live on in our hearts.
