David Barlow Obituary, A Visionary and Champion of Youth Rallying Has Sadly Passed Away
David Barlow Death, Obituary – As the sun set on a fantastic day of testing at Teeside Autodrome, the rallying community received somber news that cast a shadow over the day’s excitement. David “Digby” Barlow had passed away, leaving behind a legacy that has forever changed the world of motorsports.
For those who may not be familiar with Digby, he was the driving force behind a remarkable vision. With unparalleled passion and unwavering dedication, he embarked on a mission to get young rally enthusiasts between the ages of 14 and 17 behind the wheel. Despite numerous obstacles, including bureaucratic red tape and meticulous paperwork, Digby’s determination bore fruit, and in 2012, the Junior 1000 Ecosse Challenge was born.
While Digby may not have been directly involved in the Junior 1000 Championship during my competitive years, I had the distinct privilege of meeting him. It was an honor to receive the Spirit of the Championship award for the 2022 season, known as The Digby Shield. This award carries not only my name but also the spirit of his vision.
I am humbled to have my name associated with The Digby Shield, an emblem of his enduring legacy. It symbolizes the unwavering commitment to keeping Digby’s vision alive and ensures that his memory will continue to thrive within the Junior 1000 Ecosse Championship for generations to come.
As we bid farewell to Digby, our hearts go out to his family and friends. His passing leaves a void in our hearts, but his indomitable spirit and the impact of his work remain as a guiding light for young rally enthusiasts. Rest in peace, David. Your legacy lives on, and your vision will inspire generations of young racers to chase their dreams with the same fervor and dedication that you exhibited throughout your life.
