He embarked on his academic journey at Oswego State University, where he pursued his passion for History & Education, eventually earning his degree.

Following his graduation, Gary embarked on a brief but impactful teaching career in Geneva, New York, where he shared his knowledge and inspired young minds. However, the call of duty led him to the United States Marine Corps, where he served his country with honor and distinction for an impressive 21 years, achieving the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. In a heartwarming twist of fate, Gary reunited with his high school sweetheart, Barbara Hewitson, and in June of 1970, they began their lifelong journey together in matrimony.
