Laura Ellermeyer Obituary, Death – Laura Ellermeyer, 93, passed away in Marietta, Georgia, on Tuesday, September 15, 2020. She was born “a coal miner’s daughter” to parents Felix and Justina Tymchuk Shevchuk on July 30, 1927, in Cadogan, Pennsylvania. The late Gerald Thomas Ellermeyer’s wife. Helen opened her own beauty parlor in Kittanning after graduating from Ford City High School in 1944 and working for Pittsburgh Plate Glass Co.

She attended both St. Mary’s Ukrainian Church in Ford City, Pennsylvania, and St. Vladimir Church in Arnold, Pennsylvania. Laura is survived by her son, Dr. Sean F. Ellermeyer and his daughter, Laura, of Marietta, Georgia; her daughter, Mrs. Serena Ellermeyer Hawley and husband Thomas, of Sarasota, Florida, and their son, Dylan; and her son, Jeremy Ellermeyer and his wife, Jill, of Randolph, New Jersey, and their children, Carly, Katie, and Jack. She is also survived by her brother, Jim Vanek; her sister, Patricia Shevchuk; her brother-in-law, Mildred “Mitzi” Ellermeyer; and several nieces, nephews, and friends from both Sterling House, Florida, and Ligonier, Pennsylvania.

Her brothers Peter, Russell, and Henry, whom she loved deeply, and her sisters Annie Staerkel, Rose Vanek, and Mary Serene, who were constantly by her side, all passed away before her. She says, “Gone are the days when my heart was young and gay; gone are my friends to a land far away; I hear their gentle voices calling, I’m coming, I’m coming, I’m on my way, I’ll be seeing you and you will be joining me.”

Mantini Funeral Home, 701 Sixth Ave., Ford City, will be open from 3:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Friday, September 25, 2020, for a viewing and Parastas ceremony. On Saturday morning at 10 a.m., the Rev. John Gribik will preside over a Divine Liturgy at St. Mary’s Ukrainian Church in Ford City. The funeral home will host a prayer service at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday. After the funeral mass, the body will be taken to be buried in Kittanning at St. Mary’s Cemetery.
