Mildred Reid Millsaps Death, Obituary – On the evening of September 3, 2023, at 10:59 P.M., Mildred Reid Millsaps, known and cherished by many, met her Savior, Jesus Christ, face to face. She was born on Valentine’s Day in 1934, and at the age of 89, she embarked on her eternal journey. Her life was a testament to faith, love, and unwavering devotion.
For three decades, Mildred served as a devoted pastor’s wife in Monroe, Loudon, and Blount counties, leaving an indelible mark on the communities she touched. In the last 35 years, she found solace and spiritual fulfillment at her home church, Lakeside Baptist Church.
Mildred possessed a remarkable spiritual gift—prayer. She dedicated her life to praying for those she loved and anyone in need, embodying compassion and grace. Her legacy is one of strength, resilience, a forgiving heart, infectious laughter, selflessness, and pure, simple love.
She was a valedictorian, a testament to her intellect and determination. Her family was profoundly blessed and influenced by her presence, as she radiated warmth and love. Mildred’s heart was attuned to music, missions, birds, weather forecasts, the great outdoors, the color blue, sewing, coffee, baking, caring for children, the beauty of autumn, the magic of snow, and the delight of ice cream.
She leaves behind her daughters and sons-in-law, Donita and Denny Moore, Kelly and Steve Hall, along with her cherished grandchildren and their spouses: Brad and Kelsey Moore, Mitzi and Shane McBride, Erin Hall, and Kari Hall. Her great-grandchildren—Dylan, Landon, Landry Moore, James, Paul, Brian, Webby, Zack, Kaytie, and Elijah McBride—were a source of immense joy.
Mildred is survived by her siblings: Dollie Kiser, Bennie Summitt, Mollie Summitt, Troy Summitt, and devoted in-laws Linda Millsaps, Mary Ann Summitt, Martha Leming, Boyd, and Vi Millsaps. She joins her beloved husband of 35 years, Rev. Ralph Millsaps, in eternal rest. She is also reunited with her parents, James and Debbie Summitt, her brother Glen Summitt and his wife Mary, and her sister June Summitt. She is preceded in death by several cherished in-laws: Andy and Mary Millsaps, Charles and Ruby Rhyne, Andy Jr. and Betty Millsaps, JB Millsaps, Paul Summitt, Cecil Leming, and John Kiser.
