Orenda Downing Obituary, Death – It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Brenda Downing, age 62, of Anamosa. Brenda passed away in the loving embrace of her family on Wednesday, August 23, 2023, at her home. Her life was a testament to love, family, and the cherished moments that she created with her loved ones. A Life Celebration service in honor of Brenda will be held at 10:30 on Saturday morning, September 2, 2023, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Anamosa. The service will be officiated by Pastor Rodney Bluml. Prior to the service, a visitation will be held from 4 until 7 on Friday, September 1, 2023, at the Goettsch Funeral Home, Anamosa.
Brenda leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion. Surviving her are her husband of 42 years, Dirk, and her two beloved sons, Jesse (Betsy) Downing and Joel (Mallory) Downing. The lights of her life were her cherished grandchildren, Remi, Karter, Theo, and Brooks, and another blessing on the way. She is also survived by her mother, Patricia Merritt, and her siblings, Bill Merritt, Susan Merritt, and Jodie Merritt Ludwig. Brenda’s extended family includes many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, in-laws, and out-laws.
Brenda Kay Merritt was born on August 15, 1961, to Richard (Dick) Merritt and Patricia Kellogg Merritt at the Anamosa Community Hospital. Her life was a journey filled with love, laughter, and cherished moments that will forever be remembered by those who had the privilege of knowing her.
As we come together to celebrate Brenda’s life, let us hold onto the memories of her warmth, her love for family, and the joy she found in her precious grandchildren. Though she may no longer be with us, her spirit lives on in the hearts of her loved ones. In this time of grief, may we find solace in the love and memories we shared with Brenda Downing.
