Ray Plyler Obituary, Ray Plyler Has Passed Away Unexpectedly
Ray Plyler Death, Obituary – With deep regret, we must announce the retirement of Mr. Ray Von Plyler. His family and friends have Sheriff Faile and the entire Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office’s deepest condolences. Please remember the Von family in your prayers over the next few days as they mourn the loss of Ray. Mr. Ray Von Plyler, 78, of Lancaster, Pennsylvania, passed away at Atrium Health-Main on Thursday, August 24, 2023. He was the son of the late Alexander “Toy” Plyler and Wilma Broom Plyler and was born on June 18, 1945 in Lancaster. It is known that Mr. Plyler attended Antioch Baptist Church.
He excelled as a football player for both the Lancaster Blue Hurricanes and Clemson University. Mr. Plyler served as a Military Policeman in Germany and as an Army soldier in Vietnam. He left his position as Lancaster County Sheriff to pursue retirement. Mr. Plyler’s passions in life were farming and his farm animals. He was a beloved figure in the community and loved by many. On Monday, August 28, 2023, at 10 a.m., the Reverend Dr. Trent McLaughlin will preside over a memorial service honoring Mr. Plyler’s life at Antioch Baptist Church. Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery will be the location of the burial.
His family includes his wife, Lancaster native Diane McGuirt Plyler, as well as their children and spouses: daughter Amber Plyler-Gray and husband Larry of Lancaster, son C. Andrew Plyler and fiancee Savannah, both of Lancaster, and brother Clifford Plyler of Treadway, Tennessee. John Alexander Plyler, Mr. Plyler’s son, Susan Pat Clark Plyler, and Mr. Plyler’s sister Peggy Lucas all predeceased Mr. Plyler. On Sunday, August 27, 2023, the family will greet visitors from 3 to 5 pm at Lancaster Funeral Home.
