Ruby Kessler Obituary, Death – Ruby Roberta Kessler, a beloved member of the Morgantown community, passed away on September 1st, 2023, at the age of 100. She spent her final days at Sundale Nursing Home, surrounded by the love and care of her family and the dedicated staff. Ruby’s life was a testament to the values of love, family, and community. Ruby was born in Morgantown, West Virginia, on December 23, 1922, to the late Sadie and Solomon Dalton. She grew up in a close-knit family and was deeply rooted in her hometown throughout her long and fulfilling life.

One of the cornerstones of Ruby’s life was her unwavering faith. She was a lifelong member of Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church, where her dedication shone brightly as she frequently contributed her culinary talents to various church events. Ruby’s Pumpkin Pies, potato salad, and turkey dressing were cherished by all who had the privilege of tasting them. Her culinary gifts were a true labor of love.

Ruby is survived by her loving children: Hilda Lakatos and the late Albert, Velma Howell and husband Ronald, and Randy Kessler and wife Brenda. She also leaves behind her siblings, Patty Hilling and Velma McDonald. Ruby’s legacy lives on through her 8 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and 9 great-great-grandchildren, each of whom held a special place in her heart.

In addition to her parents, Ruby was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Bert Kessler, and her daughters, Erma Mae and Wilma Fae Kessler. She was also predeceased by her siblings: Jacob, Eugene, Prentiss, Solomon Jr., Marcella, Wilma, Opal, Rachael, Ann, Melva, Okey, and Carl. Ruby now joins her loved ones who have gone before her in the embrace of eternity.

Family and friends are invited to pay their respects and celebrate Ruby’s life at Hastings Funeral Home, located at 153 Spruce Street. Visitation hours will be held on Tuesday, September 5th, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM and again on Wednesday, September 6th, from 10:00 AM until the time of the service at 11:00 AM. Pastor Donna Dalton will officiate the service, honoring Ruby’s lifelong devotion to her faith. Following the service, a graveside ceremony will take place at Nicholson Cemetery.

The Kessler family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the dedicated staff at Sundale Nursing Home, a special niece, Debbie Ridgeway, Amedisys Hospice, and all the family members who provided love and support during Ruby’s final days. Your kindness and care were deeply appreciated during this difficult time.
